Middlesbrough woman charged with newborn baby's murder Teesside woman in court charged with murdering her newborn baby
(about 1 hour later)
A woman has been charged with the murder of a newborn baby. A mother accused of murdering her newborn baby has appeared in court.
Cleveland Police launched a murder investigation in October after the boy died in the Teessville area of Middlesbrough. Shauna Donnelly, 24, was charged with murdering her son Ellis Donnelly after taking him to a hospital last October where he was pronounced dead.
A 24-year-old woman is due to appear at Teesside Magistrates' Court in Middlesbrough later, a police spokeswoman said. She appeared before Teesside Magistrates' Court and then in crown court before Judge Paul Watson QC via videolink.
No further details such as the cause of the boy's death have been revealed by police. Ms Donnelly, from Teesside, was granted bail after Robert Mochrie, defending, said she was vulnerable.
He told the court it was an exceptional and "sensitive" case, adding that she had no previous convictions.
Judge Watson granted her bail with conditions and the case would next be heard at Teesside Crown Court on 29 June, with a trial date yet to be set.
