To apply, people can go to the UK government's website. They will then receive a text message or email to book an appointment, with results sent out by text. The first two people have been injected as part of a UK study of a potential coronavirus vaccine. They are the first of more than 800 volunteers recruited for the Oxford University study, half of which will receive the Covid-19 vaccine and half a control vaccine. Elisa Granato, one of the two who received the jab, told the BBC: "I'm a scientist, so I wanted to try to support the scientific process wherever I can."

A police officer was able to see his daughter's birth after having his coronavirus test fast-tracked when his wife went into early labour. Joe Burrows was displaying symptoms and was sent by Greater Manchester Police for testing, which normally takes 72 hours to come back.
