Version 0 of 1.

An 18-year-old killed by a train at a level crossing in Ayrshire may have been distracted by an MP3 music player or mobile phone, police said.

The teenager died after walking over the crossing on Friday, in his home village of Gatehead, near Kilmarnock.

A British Transport Police spokesman said investigations into the incident, which involved the 1140 GMT Girvan to Kilmarnock train, were continuing.

A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

The spokesman said: "At about 12.35pm yesterday an 18-year old man was struck and killed by a train at the level crossing in Gatehead.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious, we are treating it as an accident."
