Woman killed in shop flat blaze

An elderly woman died in a fire which spread across a flat above an empty shop in Staffordshire.

Emergency crews were called to the property in Market Square, Rugeley, just before 2000 GMT on Friday.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said the woman's body was found inside.

An investigation has now started to find out how the blaze started. Police said they did not believe it was suspicious.
