Murder hunt after man, 83, dies Intruders beat man, 83, to death

Police have begun a murder inquiry after the death of an 83-year-old man who was attacked in his home. An 83-year-old man has died after being "viciously" attacked by intruders in his home.
Ferozur Rahman, who lived alone, was found unconscious in his flat with severe head injuries on Friday. Ferozur Rahman, who lived alone in Bethnal Green, east London, was found unconscious with severe head injuries by his grandson on Friday.
Mr Rahman, last seen on Thursday, was taken to hospital by ambulance but died of his injuries on Saturday. The father-of-seven, who was last seen alive on Thursday night, was taken to hospital but died on Saturday.
Detectives believe one or more suspects forced their way into the flat, in Bethnal Green, east London, and are appealing for witnesses. Police said the door to the flat had been forced and one or more suspects had attacked Mr Rahman.
'Severe assault' 'Wicked crime'
Det Insp Larry Smith from the Metropolitan Police told the BBC: "Mr Rahman - an 83-year-old man - lived alone in his flat on the Colombia Estate and someone has broken into his house and assaulted him with such severity that he subsequently died of his injuries. A Metropolitan Police spokesman described the attack on Mr Rahman as "vicious".
"As I say Mr Rahman's an elderly man and we're basically appealing for any witnesses who may have any information concerning this attack or anybody else who's got any information to come forward and contact us." Det Insp Lawrence Smith told the BBC: "Mr Rahman lived alone in his flat on the Colombia Estate and someone has broken into his house and assaulted him with such severity that he subsequently died of his injuries.
Mr Rahman was discovered with his injuries at 1410 GMT on Friday and was taken to the Royal London Hospital. "We are appealing to the local community to help solve this wicked and ghastly crime."
A post-mortem examination has yet to be arranged. Mr Rhaman was last seen at his ground-floor flat in Gunthorpe Street at 2130GMT on Thursday.

There have been no arrests and enquiries are continuing. His 17-year-old grandson found him with severe injuries, inside the property, at 1410 GMT on Friday.
Mr Rahman is understood to be the father of four daughters, three sons and several grandchildren.
His son-in-law Abjal Hussain, 43, said: "He was a good man who was likely to help everyone, he was like a community worker - everybody goes to him for any type of help."
Anyone who saw anything suspicious on the estate on Thursday or Friday, or who sat anyone entering or leaving Mr Rahman's home has been asked to contact police.
