Woman rescued from car in river

A women is recovering in hospital after her car rolled down an embankment and plunged into a fast-flowing river.

Two fire-fighters wearing life-jackets had to pull her from the car as it filled with water in the River Corrwg. The rescue took more than an hour.

Police said they were investigating how the car left the A4063 near Cymmer, Neath Port Talbot, on Saturday evening.

The woman was treated at the scene by paramedics and then taken to hospital. Her injuries are not known.

The woman was pulled to safety by fire crews using lines and a stretcher, after the crash which happened at about 1910 GMT.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "One female was trapped in a car in the fast-flowing river. The car was filling up with water."
