West Parley pub car park death: Man arrested on suspicion of murder Dorset police officer charged with murdering woman
(about 16 hours later)
A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a woman who was found unconscious in a pub car park and later died in hospital. A police officer has been charged with murdering a woman in a pub car park.
Police said the woman, in her 40s, died on Sunday after officers were called to the Horns Inn in West Parley, Dorset, on Saturday afternoon. Claire Parry, 41, from Bournemouth, was found unconscious at the Horns Inn in West Parley, Dorset, on Saturday afternoon.
The man was originally arrested on suspicion of attempted murder but was rearrested on suspicion of murder after the woman died. She later died in hospital from a brain injury caused by "compression of the neck", police said.
Police said the pair knew each other. PC Timothy Brehmer, 41, an officer seconded to the National Police Air Service, is due to appear before Poole magistrates on Tuesday.
Det Ch Insp Richard Dixey said the woman's death was being treated as "unexplained at this time". The Dorset constable, who knew Mrs Parry, was not on duty at the time of the incident, police said.
He said an investigation had started to "establish the full circumstances of what happened" and appealed for any witnesses to contact the force. Died in hospital
Detectives were called to the pub at 15:39 BST following a report of two people requiring medical treatment.
Mrs Parry was taken to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital where she died on Sunday morning.
Mr Brehmer was treated at Poole Hospital for injuries to his arms.
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Callaghan said: "We have kept the family of Mrs Parry updated throughout the investigation and family liaison officers continue to support them.
"Our thoughts remain with her family and friends at this very difficult time."
Dorset Police said the case had been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to PC Brehmer's occupation and the seriousness of the charge.
