Images sought for police database
http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/england/surrey/7876316.stm Version 0 of 1. People are being asked to donate their images to a police video database that needs to be constantly updated. Surrey Police said the system is used as part of ID procedure and helps to prove suspects' guilt or innocence. A spokeswoman said: "Every ID procedure must be fair, and to achieve that fairness we need the widest possible choice of volunteers we can achieve." An open session is being held at Woking Police Station on Saturday so potential volunteers can find out more. The spokeswoman said the database currently contained "thousands of images" but it had to be updated constantly in order to keep up with different styles, and to provide choice. She said anyone aged over 10 could donate their image, but people under 17 would need the permission of their parents or guardian. Further open sessions have been planned to take place in April and June. |
