Detectives are investigating an attempted murder after a man was attacked with a knife in Glasgow.

The 28-year-old man was chased along Edinburgh Road in Barlanark by another man at about 0230 GMT and assaulted in Barlanark Road.

He received injuries to his head, arms and body.

In another incident on Friday, an 18-year-old received serious injuries after being attacked by several males in a Newlands park at about 2230 GMT.

Strathclyde Police said the teenager was struck on the head with a blunt instrument at the park in Lubnaig Road and was being treated at Gartnavel Hospital, where his condition was described as "serious".

Vicious attack

Officers have appealed for information about both attacks.

A spokesman said the Barlanark Road incident was completely unprovoked.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where his condition was also described as serious.

Det Sgt Kenny McCartney, from Easterhouse CID, said: "This was a shocking attack and has left a man seriously injured.

"Edinburgh Road can be a busy thoroughfare for taxis and cars and it could be that at that time of the morning passing motorists or taxi drivers may have seen these two men running along the road.

"The attack itself happened in a residential area and maybe someone heard a disturbance or shouting or even witnessed the attack.

"I would urge them to contact us - even if they think the information is insignificant it could assist us in finding the man who carried out this vicious attack."
