A teenage girl has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of an elderly woman who died after an arson attack at an East Sussex nursing home. Irene Herring, 85, died in hospital on 2 February. She had been rescued from a fire in her top-floor room at Ancaster Court, Bexhill, the previous day. Officers said they believe someone entered her room and started the fire. The 17-year-old from Bexhill was arrested by detectives from Sussex Police major crime branch. David Herring last week described his wife as a "naturally happy soul". Mrs Herring suffered a stroke in May 2006 and had been cared for in hospitals or nursing homes since then. |
