(30 minutes later)
Kenyan authorities have deported more than 420 refugees who fled fighting across the border in Somalia. Kenya has shut its border with Somalia and will not allow more refugees into the country, says its foreign minister.
The refugees fled Islamist militias driven from southern Somalia towards Kenya by Ethiopian and Somali soldiers. Earlier the Kenyan authorities deported more than 420 Somali refugees who had crossed the border in recent days.
International law was broken when the refugees, mostly women and children, were driven in trucks from a border camp, the UN refugee agency said. Somalis have been fleeing from conflict as Islamist militias hide out near the Kenyan border being pursued by Ethiopian and Somali soldiers.
Kenyan soldiers have sealed its border with Somalia and intensified screening to prevent militias arriving. Mainly women and children were deported after being taken from a transit camp in trucks, the UN refugee agency said.
But the government has not formally declared the borders closed.
