Multiple police and ambulance crews have attended a south Brisbane street after a man reportedly stabbed an officer in the face and was then shot. A man has been shot by police after allegedly stabbing an officer in the face in an inner-city Brisbane suburb, but was expected to survive.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon on Hillgrove Street in Upper Mount Gravatt, and Queensland Police say a crime scene has been established. Two officers attended a home on Hillgrove Street in Upper Mount Gravatt to deliver documents on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Queensland Ambulance Service also confirmed they have attended the scene. The man then allegedly attacked the male officer, injuring his face with a knife.
More to come “It was at this time that the officer’s partner discharged her firearm a number of times [and] struck the man in the torso area of the body,” Det Supt Tony Fleming told media at the scene.
He said the man was shot three times.
“It is very sad and unfortunate two people have been wounded and in serious conditions,” Fleming said.
“Two police from an inquiry office turning up at a house [to deliver documents] is an everyday event.
“What followed is not an everyday event.”
He said an investigation would be conducted into the incident, including where the officers were standing when they were allegedly attacked.
“My understanding is that they did their best to retreat – we are lucky it was not worse than it is,” Fleming said.
Forensic officers remained at the scene overnight.
The man was taken to hospital and was expected to survive the shooting, police said. The injured officer was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s hospital for treatment.
