Disgust at pensioner home swindle

The brother of a man jailed for cheating their blind elderly mother out of her Saintfield home has been talking about his disgust at what happened. Annie Martin, 93, was made homeless by her son and daughter-in-law after a spell in hospital. George and Mary Martin were sentenced to six months in prison on Friday for forging land registry documents taking Annie's name off the property deeds. Malachy Martin had to tell his mother she no longer owned her home. "It was very disturbing for myself and my wife and daughter to have to go and tell her that she no longer owned that home and that she would have to go into a nursing home," he said. Mrs Martin's possessions were dumped in plastic bags on the hospital ward after the swindle. The pensioner now lives in a residential home in south Belfast. Annie Martin is now bringing a civil court case to try to get her name put back on the deeds, so that she is once again a joint owner of her house. |
