A number of shots have been fired during an attempted robbery at a fuel depot in west Belfast.

A masked man fired a shot at a locked door to gain entry to the premises at Distillery Street at about 1800 GMT on Tuesday.

He demanded money from office staff before firing another shot at a portable building on the complex.

A number of workers who were in the building at the time escaped injury. The robber ran off empty-handed.

Appealing for information, police said the man was about 5ft 9in tall and of medium build.

He was wearing a hooded camouflage top, blue tracksuit bottoms with white stripes and white training shoes.
