Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder of a businessman two years ago.

Charles Butler, 50, was shot in the neck outside the Matapan pub in Dagenham, east London, in October 2004 and died eight months later.

The suspects, aged 27 and 40, were held at separate addresses in New Addington, south London, and taken into custody.

Among those previously arrested in the inquiry was a detective constable, who was suspended from duty.

Life-support machine

The 27-year-old man had been arrested once before in relation to the murder inquiry.

Both men are in custody at an east London police station.

A £25,000 reward is on offer for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the gunman.

Mr Butler died at the Oldchurch Hospital in June 2005 after spending eight months on a life-support machine.

Police have previously released CCTV footage of the entire shooting incident as part of their witness appeals.
