One person has died and another is seriously injured following a two-car collision involving a police vehicle. A man has died in a two-car collision with a police vehicle the day before the official opening of his family's £900,000 new farm shop and restaurant.
Dyfed-Powys Police said the incident happened on the A48 near Crosshands, Carmarthenshire, at around 2100 GMT on Tuesday. The man, named locally as Roger Bowen, was killed in the crash on the A48 near Crosshands around 2100 GMT on Tuesday.
One man suffered fatal injuries. The second man and the officer driving the police car were taken to hospital. Rural Affairs Minister Elin Jones was due to attend the official opening of the Cwmcerrig Farm Shop and Grill which Mr Bowen ran with his brothers-in-law.
The force said the matter had been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission. Another person was badly injured in the crash, which the IPCC is investigating.
Anyone who witnessed the collision, or was driving along the A48 in the Crosshands area at around this time is asked to contact Dyfed-Powys Police on 0845 3302000. The shop and grill in Gorslas, Carmarthenshire, was established by Mr Bowen and his five brothers-in-law Roland, Stuart, David, Reuben and Tom Watkins.
The family has farmed in the area for over 50 years.
Ms Jones was attending the official opening - which went ahead after consultation with his immediate family - as the business had been backed by grants from the Welsh Assembly Government and Carmarthenshire council.
The minister said: "Today's opening is clouded with sadness and we all feel deeply for the loss the Watkins family has suffered."
