Gun found in dead officer inquiry Petrol bombers attack NI police

A gun and ammunition have been found during searches in Northern Ireland as part of the investigation into the murder of policeman Stephen Carroll. Police investigating the murder of two soldiers in Northern Ireland have come under petrol bomb attack from rioters.
The weaponry was discovered in Lurgan, where a number of petrol bombs were thrown at police on Saturday. The officers had been carrying out searches in Lurgan, County Armagh, where prominent Republican Colin Duffy was arrested over the killings.
Earlier, leading republican Colin Duffy was arrested in the town and is still being questioned about last week's murder of two soldiers in Antrim. Also in Lurgan, officers probing the murder of Pc Stephen Carroll have found a gun and ammunition.
Constable Carroll, 48, was shot while on duty in Craigavon on Monday. And a woman, 30, and a man, 37, have been arrested in Craigavon, Co Armagh, in connection with terrorist crime.
Mr Duffy is one of three men being questioned about the murder of two soldiers at Massereene Army base last Saturday night. Police searched Mr Duffy's house throughout Saturday and came under attack from youths who threw stones at them.
The 41-year-old was arrested during a police raid in Lurgan on Saturday. Republican protesters gathered and in the early evening threw a number of petrol bombs at the police in several different places in the town.
The BBC's Chris Page in Belfast says the situation is now reported to be fairly calm.
