Convicted killer appears in court

A convicted murderer has appeared in court alongside his fiancee after he was arrested following a search.

Lyndon Coles, 45, and Nicole McMurray, 33, were arrested at a guest house in the Medway area of Kent on Thursday.

He appeared before Hull magistrates on Saturday charged with escape from lawful custody. He was recalled to prison to appear again on 30 March.

Miss McMurray also appeared and was charged with assisting an escaped prisoner. She was bailed until 5 May.

Coles was at Kirklevington Prison near Yarm, Cleveland, where he was serving a life sentence for the murder of Shane George in Hull in 1994.

He was jailed for life with a minimum term of 15 years for the murder of Mr George who was shot dead as he opened his door.
