A rare 22ct gold Cadbury's Conundrum egg is displayed at Batemans Auctioneers in Stamford, Lincolnshire. The item smashed estimates by selling for £31,000 at auction, beating its record sale price of £17,200 in 2017. The egg was made in the 1980s by Garrard, the Queen's official jeweller, for a UK-wide treasure hunt in which 12 gold engraved eggs could be found by solving clues hidden in an accompanying book.

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny attends a hearing to consider an appeal against his jailing for violating the terms of a suspended sentence. Navalny was detained last month after returning to Russia from Germany, where he was being treated for a near-fatal nerve agent attack.
