Man held over OAP stabbing death

A man has appeared in court charged with murdering a pensioner who was stabbed as she waited in the street for a lift to play skittles.

Martin Phillip Davies, 22, appeared at Newport Magistrates Court on Saturday.

He is accused of stabbing 66-year-old Gwen Poole in Llanbradach, Caerphilly on Tuesday evening. Post-mortem tests showed she died of chest wounds.

The case against Mr Davies was adjourned until Monday and he was remanded in custody.
