A 20-year-old man from Londonderry will serve four years in jail for killing a man after he crashed his car while being chased by Irish police.

Thomas Long, 46, was knocked down as he worked at his fruit and vegetable stall near Bridgend in Donegal in July 2007.

Paul Lynch, from Arranmore Avenue in Derry, had already admitted causing death by dangerous driving and causing grievous bodily injury to a passenger.

He was sentenced to four years for each offence, to run concurrently.

He was also sentenced to two years on probation.

Lynch was disqualified from driving for five years, and was fined £100 for driving without insurance.

The offences were committed after Lynch lost control of his car while being chased by Irish police near the Derry-Donegal border.
