A five-year-old girl seriously injured in a fire in Doncaster which killed her parents and younger brother has died.

Sophie Colley was being treated at Sheffield Children's Hospital following the blaze at the family home in South Street, Highfields, on Sunday.

Her father Mark, 29, mother Michelle, 25, who was eight months pregnant, and three-year-old brother Lewis died from smoke inhalation.

The grandparents described the children as "wonderful".

In a statement they said: "Words cannot describe how we as a family are feeling at this time.

This has been devastating for us as a family and we do not know how we will be able to rebuild our lives. Mark and Michelle's parents

"We are trying to cope with the loss of Mark and Michelle as well as our much-loved grandchildren Lewis and Sophie.

"Shelly was about to become a mother for the third time and was two weeks away from delivering son Ashton John Colley.

"Sadly now we will not get to know him but there is no doubt that he would have been as special as Lewis and Sophie.

"Mark and Michelle were wonderful parents and gave us wonderful grandchildren.

"This has been devastating for us as a family and we do not know how we will be able to rebuild our lives.

"It is times like this that community spirit comes to the top and the people of Highfields did not let the family down."

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and is likely to be known later this week.

A fire service spokesman has said the blaze was so severe that the investigation was not straight forward.
