A young boy has been told he could lose the use of his arm after being attacked by a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

Jamie Allan, 8, was attacked while he was playing with a ball in Alloa, Clackmannanshire last month.

His family has claimed the animal responsible for the attack has continued to wander free around their McKinlay Crescent home.

Central Scotland Police said the attack was reported to the procurator fiscal so the case could be considered.

The boy's mother, Rhonda, said: "He had to spend a week in Stirling Royal, where he has had three operations already, and he will be going back soon for skin grafts.

"We don't know if he will ever have the full use of his arm again."

Insp Andrew Malcolm said: "This incident highlights the potential danger animals can be and owners must do their utmost to ensure their pets are under control at all times."
