Man dead and two injured in crash

A man has died and two others injured in a road crash on Islay, police have revealed.

The accident happened in Port Ellen at about 2110 BST on Saturday when a Volvo car left the road near Kildalton Cross and hit a tree.

The emergency services were called, but a 33-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two other occupants of the car, both also aged 33, were airlifted to the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

Their injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

Strathclyde Police said a report on the incident would be sent to the procurator fiscal.
