A woman, found dead in the passenger seat of a car after it crashed in Lancashire, had been stabbed repeatedly in the chest, police have said. Clare Atkinson, 31, was discovered in the Hyundai when it crashed in Thornton Cleveleys on Friday. The 52-year-old driver has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He is in hospital receiving treatment to a head injury sustained in the accident. The car struck another vehicle whilst overtaking in Fleetwood Road North. 'Difficult time' Det Ch Insp Dermott Horrigan, said: "I would appeal for anybody who witnessed the crash to contact us. "It is also important that we establish exactly what happened prior to the collision and I need to build up a picture of Clare's last movements. "I am keen to hear from anyone who saw the blue Hyundai Getz in the area. "This is obviously a very difficult time for the family and we have officers supporting them." |
