Man critical after town assault GAA star's brother 'is critical'

A 31-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital following an assault in Cookstown, County Tyrone. The brother of a Derry GAA football star is in a critical condition in hospital after an attack in Cookstown.
A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with the incident, which took place in the James Street area of the town early on Sunday. Connor McCusker, 31, from Ballinderry had been on a night out with his younger brother, Niall - the Derry vice captain - on Saturday.
Initial police reports that the man had died were incorrect. A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with the incident which happened outside a nightclub in James Street early on Sunday morning.
Mr McCusker suffered head injuries and underwent emergency surgery.
He is being cared for at Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital.
Sean Gunning, Derry GAA press officer, said the news was devastating.
"He is still in a critical condition. Our thoughts are with Connor and with Niall and all the McCusker family at this time.
"We are wishing for a speedy and full recovery for Connor."

Motorists in the Cookstown area are advised that the centre of the town is still closed while police investigations continue. Diversions have been put in place.
