Briton dies in outback gorge fall

The man was said to be taking photographs when he slipped and fell 65ft (20m) into Lennard Gorge in Western Australia on 26 April. The man, who is yet to be named, was travelling with two friends who descended down the gorge to his aid but were unable to resuscitate him. Emergency services recovered the body. A post-mortem test will be carried out. Sgt Greg Lambert, of Western Australia Police, said Lennard Gorge was approximately 200km (120 miles) east of Derby, to the north of Western Australia. Emergency teams from the towns of Broome and Kununurra recovered the man's body which was taken to Derby Regional Hospital, Western Australia, for tests. A spokeswoman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office confirmed the man's family had been informed and said they were continuing to provide consular assistance. |
