Residents in the Dernawilt area were forced to leave their houses following reports that a bomb had been left on the Rosslea to Donagh Road. It turned out to be a hoax and the police said dissident republicans were responsible. Chief Inspector Alywin Barton said the decision to move people had not been taken lightly. "I am extremely distressed with the inconvenience that was caused to them," he said. "Those families have been exceptionally patient and supportive and tolerant throughout the operation. "But they do feel a real sense of distress, a real sense of frustration at being displaced and I understand that competely. "It is a number one priority to try to ensure that as little inconvenience as possible is caused to the community, however, safety then plays a role as well." |
