A blackbird has made its home in a working digger in Lancashire.

Duncan Booth was shocked to find a nest with two bright blue eggs on top of the battery in the JCB he was using to move stones at a site in Chorley.

Mr Booth was preparing the Withnell site for the building of a canal-side cafe when he noticed the bird's home.

He thought he must have scared off the mother, but when Mr Booth returned to the machine the next day, three more eggs had appeared.

"We noticed steam coming out of the bonnet after we had been using it for half a day," Mr Booth said.

"We lifted the bonnet up and lo and behold there's a nest on top of the battery box."

The JCB is now grounded until the eggs have hatched.
