At least 10 people have been killed after a fire swept through a gaming hall in eastern Ukraine, officials say.

The blaze on the ground floor of the five-story building in the city of Dnipropetrovsk started at about 0045 local time (1145 GMT on Wednesday).

Another 10 people people were injured. Some reports say there was an explosion before the fire erupted.

An investigation is under way, and officials believe the fire started in a slot machine in the hall.

The fire erupted in the hall when some 60 people were watching a football match, officials say. The deaths were caused by smoke inhalation and flames.

Security services say fire safety regulations were completely violated in the hall, with dozens of slot machines jammed into a small space.

Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is flying to Dnipropetrovsk to chair an emergency cabinet meeting there.
