Findlay faces disciplinary action Findlay faces disciplinary action
(20 minutes later)
One of Scotland's most high-profile lawyers is facing disciplinary action by his professional body. Leading QC Donald Findlay is facing further disciplinary action after he refused to accept that he was guilty of professional misconduct.
Donald Findlay QC has been accused of making sectarian jokes at an after dinner speech in Northern Ireland and during an interview with a US reporter. He was disciplined following an after-dinner speech in Northern Ireland during which he was alleged to have made remarks offensive to Catholics.
It is understood, Mr Findlay, who has always denied being a bigot, has refused to accept a disciplinary decision by the Faculty of Advocates. A committee of the Faculty of Advocates censured him but its ruling could only take effect if Mr Findlay accepted it.
If found guilty at a tribunal, he could face suspension or a heavy fine. Mr Findlay's refusal to do so means the matter will now be heard by a tribunal.
The veteran advocate is expected to appear before the tribunal in March.
Mr Findlay has denied that he had been found guilty of professional misconduct.
If the faculty proceeds with disciplinary action, he could face suspension or a heavy fine.
