A 16-year-old boy who was gunned down at a Greater Manchester pub had been shot in the leg three years ago, police have confirmed.

Giuseppe Gregory was shot in the car park of the Robin Hood pub in Stretford on Sunday night and died later in Trafford General Hospital.

Ch Supt Janette McCormick did not rule out the attack being gang-related.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of murder but have been released. A 22-year-old remains in police custody.

Both the released men are now being treated as witnesses, Greater Manchester Police said.

Giuseppe was aged 13 when he was first the victim of gun crime.

He suffered leg injuries in the shooting which also happened in Greater Manchester.

The killing of Giuseppe, who lived in Ardwick with his mother, is the first fatal shooting in Greater Manchester for more than a year.

Giuseppe was my only child, my little boy and no words or statement will ever sum up what he meant to me or what I lost Mother, Samantha Lewis

Ch Supt McCormick said: "The attack on Giuseppe could have been related to incidents that had taken place around the pub earlier that evening.

"We have no idea why this boy was attacked, we are following all lines of inquiry.

"All we definitely know at this stage is that a 16-year-old boy has been shot and killed and we need to find who did this for his mum and dad and his family."

Giuseppe's mother, Samantha Lewis, 36, said: "Giuseppe was my loving and beautiful son who was taken away from me before he had chance to fully experience life.

"He had a big personality and was loved by all who knew him. Friends looked up to him, family adored him and he will be sadly missed by all.

"Giuseppe was my only child, my little boy and no words or statement will ever sum up what he meant to me or what I lost."

Detectives call for information after the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy in a pub

His father, James Gregory, 37, said the whole community was grieving the loss of his son.

Police are now trying to trace the movements of the car Giuseppe was travelling in before the shooting, a green Volkswagen Golf with the registration MT08 MXY.

Anyone who saw a silver Honda Accord private hire taxi in the area around the pub, with the registration V797 LCP, is also asked to come forward.

Ch Supt McCormick added: "We're doing all we can, but we need your help.

"This pub holds a music event every Sunday night. There are people who attend it regularly and I'm sure were there last night.

"It's those people who go week-in, week-out who may know who is behind this."
