It comes as Iran's deputy foreign minister Bagheri Kani is due to hold talks with officials from the Foreign Office in London.
Mr Ratcliffe, who will meet Foreign Office minister James Cleverly later, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "I guess I'm looking for some kind of a breakthrough."
