Five security workers went to hospital in the early hours after breathing in fumes during a chemical incident. A total of 14 people were taken to hospital, complaining of feeling dizzy and nausea.
The building was partially closed but reopened later. However, shortly before 0900 BST more staff complained of fumes and the centre was closed off. Five security workers were treated for the effects of fumes shortly before 0400 BST. Later, more staff complained of fumes and the centre was closed off.
Ambulance staff said about 20 people had complained of nausea. A triage centre has been set up to screen 250 Bullring workers.
A West Midlands Ambulance spokeswoman said they were called to the Bullring for the second time after reports a man had collapsed. Ambulance staff were first called to the centre at 0345 BST after security staff were thought to have breathed in fumes.
All the workers were treated at the scene and five were taken to City Hospital for further assessment.
'Watery eyes'
"They were complaining of watery eyes, feeling nauseous and two of the staff had been sick," a spokesman said.
