If Wales scoops both parts of the £14bn contracts, it will have a major impact on the south Wales economy. It will not be involved with basic training but what is known as Phase 2 and 3 training - teaching personnel their trades - operating radio systems or aeronautical engineering.
With up to 10,000 service personnel on the new campus, local suppliers and other businesses will be cashing in with implications for transport and housing in the area. If the Vale of Glamorgan does scoops both parts of the £14bn contracts, Cardiff Business School's Martin Rhisiart said it will have "a huge economic impact" for the south Wales economy.

A new campus will be needed which is likely to employ 4,000 although not all will be new jobs as some will be relocated from existing training establishments around the UK.
However, it is thought it the base would create 1,500 jobs in the wider economy as well 1,500 construction jobs in order to build the base.
