Six rescued from blaze in flats Racial link to flat fire probed

Six people have been rescued from a fire at flats in south Belfast, the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service has said. Police are examining a possible racial motive for an arson attack on a flats complex in south Belfast.
Fire crews were called to the property, on Eglantine Avenue, at about 0200 GMT. Fire crews used ladders to rescue six people trapped in the upstairs flats at the property, on Eglantine Avenue, at about 0200 GMT.
They arrived to find dense smoke in the ground floor hallway and people trapped in the upstairs flats. Fire crews found a burning mattress on the ground floor of the property, which is a house converted into six flats on three floors.
Officers used ladders to rescue them while fire teams put out the fire in the hallway. It is being treated as suspicious. A number of the residents are members of the Chinese community.
