The shooting was carried out by members of two rival families, police told Austria Press Agency, AP reported. Police said five men armed with knives and another with a pistol began fighting during a festival, the BBC's Bethany Bell reported.
Police arrested five suspects, the news agency reported. The number of injured is expected to rise, a police spokeswoman said.
The Indian temple is situated in Vienna-Rudolfsheim, in Vienna's 15th district. The wounded were taken to hospital by helicopter. All six of the armed men were severely injured in the incident and were taken to hospital, where they were arrested, our correspondent said.
She said the men were apparently extremists who disagreed with the teachings of the preacher.
The Indian temple is situated in Vienna-Rudolfsheim, in the 15th district of the capital.
