Revenue fizzes at Irn Bru maker

AG Barr, the makers of Irn Bru, have seen their sales move strongly ahead, despite the recession.

The firm reported an 8% rise in revenues in like-for-like business between February and May, when compared to the same period last year.

The Cumbernauld-based firm, which also makes Tizer, D'N'B and Rock Star, acquired fruit drinks manufacturer Rubicon last year.

This saw its total revenue surge by more than 22% over the period.

Rubicon, based in Wembley, sells strongly into the Asian communities in London.

AG Barr, which recently saw chairman Robin Barr retire, has found Irn Bru selling well through the recession, saying it is attractive as a low-priced treat.

Good weather in May also helped boost sales.
