'No response'
Det Ch Insp Alan Edwards described the death of Mr Hemming as a "sad development".
"At the present time our enquiries are ongoing as we attempt to gather evidence that will help us piece together the exact cause of this distressing incident," he said.
"With that in mind I would once again like to appeal to anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
"We remain eager to trace anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious around the time of the fire or anyone who may have information relating to it."
Neighbours were also overcome with the effects of smoke as they tried to rescue the family.
Two neighbours, Linda Beck and Caroline Welsh, said that when they got no response from the house they looked for something to break down the front door.
