Two aircraft 'come down' in crash Two aircraft in 'mid-air crash'
(30 minutes later)
An aircraft and glider have both crashed in Oxfordshire, a fire service spokeswoman has confirmed. Two aircraft have crashed in Oxfordshire in what an eyewitness described as a "mid-air collision".
Emergency crews were called at 1417 BST to the incident between Drayton and Sutton Courtenay, near Abingdon. James O'Neill told the BBC he heard a loud crash before seeing the wreckage of a light aircraft and a glider in a field behind his home in Drayton.
The spokeswoman could not confirm if the plane had been towing the glider but both had "come down". He said he also saw someone parachuting to the ground who he believed was the glider pilot.
Five fire engines and a number of officers were in attendance along with ambulance and police teams, the spokeswoman added. The fire service confirmed the two craft had "come down" just after 1400 BST. Any injuries are not yet known.
'Parachuted down'
Mr O'Neill added: "I heard a loud crash.
"The wreckage of a light aircraft and glider are lying in a field about 100 yards from my home so I assumed they hit mid-air.
"Someone parachuted down which I believe was the pilot from the glider."
Five fire engines and are in attendance along with ambulance and police teams, the spokeswoman for the fire service added.
