A 12-year-old girl has escaped with minor injuries after being struck by two vehicles while crossing the road. She was hit by a van while walking across Lochside Road in Dumfries at about 15.55 BST on Friday. It knocked her into the path of a Mazda 626 heading in the opposite direction which also struck her. Police said she had suffered cuts and bruises and had been kept in hospital overnight but had been "very, very lucky" not be seriously injured. The incident happened on Lochside Road near its junction with Riddell Avenue. A spokesman for Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary said the girl had stepped out from between two vehicles. 'Nothing broken' "She was hit by a Transit van and then knocked across the road into the path of a Mazda car and then hit again," he said. "The girl was taken to Dumfries Infirmary with bruising and cuts but nothing broken. "She has been very, very lucky - she was kept in overnight for observation." The spokesman said the case highlighted the need for young people to be aware of the safety risks associated with busy roads. "Take care when crossing the road, particularly from behind parked vehicles" he added. |
