New NI swine flu case confirmed

The latest sufferer is a female who had recently returned from the USA. She has mild symptoms and is recovering at home. The Public Health Agency is arranging a follow-up of people who were in close contact with the woman. Seven other cases are under currently under investigation in Northern Ireland. On Wednesday, the Department of Health revealed three other confirmed cases of swine flu - two males and one female. They all related to travel outside the UK and are not linked. All three developed mild symptoms after returning to Northern Ireland and are recovering at home on antivirals. All those who have been in close in contact with the patients are being followed up by the PHA. Expecting The PHA said the other nine cases in Northern Ireland have either recovered or are recovering well. Dr Carolyn Harper, Director of Public Health at the PHA, said they had been expecting further cases of swine flu. She said the best way for people to protect themselves and their families was to cover their nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing and washing their hands afterwards. |
