Version 0 of 1.

A second teenager has been arrested after an MP was beaten by a group of youths when he tried to stop them playing football in the street.

Tobias Ellwood, member for Bournemouth East, confronted a gang in Roumelia Lane on Saturday afternoon.

He went to hospital with minor head injuries and a swollen ear, which has temporarily damaged his hearing.

A 17-year-old boy voluntarily went to a police station. Another 17-year-old boy was arrested at the weekend.

Both have been released on police bail until 5 July.

The Conservative MP, a former army officer, had finished meeting constituents at a surgery and was on his way to meet his wife and son when the incident happened.

Mr Ellwood was involved in a similar incident last year when he confronted a gang on the Townsend Estate, in his constituency, when youths urinated in someone's garden.

The gang verbally abused him and threw stones at him when he threatened to call police.

He has previously said he feels more ordinary people should be prepared to tackle anti-social behaviour.

A Dorset Police spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that a second 17-year-old boy from Bournemouth was arrested yesterday in connection with the incident.

"That was after he voluntarily attended Bournemouth police station.

"Both he and the other 17 year old boy have been released on police bail until 5 July."
