Staff at JCB are appealing for help to reunite a pair of Australian black swans after they got separated.

The pair are a familiar site to visitors at the company's lakes at its headquarters in Rocester, Staffordshire.

A spokesman said the male bird flew off earlier this week when he was startled by a pair of white swans arriving.

A spokesman said he fled along the nearby River Churnett and it may be difficult for him to make his way back.

Steve Blyth, who looks after the wildfowl on the lakes, said he believed the swan had gone as far as the River Dove as there had been a sighting reported near Doveridge.

"His instinct will be to try and return to his mate on the lake but because he has now gone over three weirs it will be extremely difficult for him to navigate his way back home," he said.

He asked anyone who spots the black swan to ring 01889 593661.
