Hall Key, 38, was rescued from the blaze at a bungalow on the Windyhill Road in Artigarvan at about 0200 BST on Friday. | |
His wife and an 18-year-old friend who were asleep at the time were woken by a fire alarm and managed to escape. | |
Mr Key's brother Hamilton said Hall was "in a lot of pain". | |
"The first words we heard were that he had 28% burns, and before we left the hospital it had gone up to 40%, and who knows, when he goes to the Royal it could go up higher," he said. | |
"The burns are on his legs and his back. My father doesn't keep too well and he's just worried, we're all worried." | |
Fire commander Jonathan Tate said Mr Key was rescued from the living room of the house." | |
"On arrival we were told that a male occupant of the house was unaccounted for," said the fire officer. | |
"Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were tasked to search the dwelling for the unaccounted man and to fight the fire. | |
"Two officers quickly located and removed the male from the living room." | |
He was taken outside and treated by paramedics before being taken to Altnagelvin Hospital. |
