Water burst leaves thousands dry Water returns after mains repair
(about 2 hours later)
More than 9,000 households have been left without mains water in Cumbernauld after a 30-inch main burst. Scottish Water engineers say they have completed repairs to the burst water main which affected around 9,000 properties around Cumbernauld.
The main burst early on Sunday morning, and engineers have been working to restore supplies to the town. The company said it would slowly recharge the main with water over the course of Sunday evening.
Scottish Water hoped the repair would be completed on Sunday evening, but made bottled water available in the meantime from the Cumbernauld Asda. Bottled water was still being made available but Scottish Water said the supply would be sufficient for people while the repair work was completed.
Water bowsers were also deployed around the affected areas, which mostly surrounded the town centre. Customers were warned there might be some discolouration to their supply.

Customers were advised to run their kitchen taps for a couple of minutes until it ran clear.
