Emergency services were called to the property in Laidon Terrace, Dundee, just before 1900 BST after a neighbour raised the alarm on seeing smoke. Firefighters were called to the first-floor property in Laidon Terrace just before 1900 BST on Tuesday.
Firefighters rescued the man from an upper flat in the block of four but found that an elderly woman had already died. They discovered the badly burned body of the woman and the unconscious 66-year-old man.
The man is being treated at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. The man was taken to Ninewells Hospital after breathing in a lot of smoke. He is on a ventilator and his condition is described as serious but stable.
