He was arrested on Wednesday after Jack was injured and two other pupils hurt. Former pupils arrived at the court with letters of support for Mr Harvey.
'Got emotional'
One girl, who wished not to be named, broke down in tears outside the courtroom.
Another former pupil, 18-year-old Joseph Smith said: "I just wanted to come here today to show support.
"He was my form tutor and he was a good teacher. It was upsetting to see him in there. I got a bit emotional."

Jack was initially taken to King's Mill Hospital but later transferred to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, where his condition was described as serious but stable on Friday morning. Jack is said to be in a stable condition at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham where he is receiving treatment for a fractured skull and a bleed to the brain.
