Aidan McGivern, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said temperatures could rise again at the start of next week in southern regions following the downpours.
He said: "Back to average this weekend and then rising to above average, increasingly so, towards the bank holiday weekend."
Mr McGivern added that temperatures could also rise "above average" in the north of England as the bank holiday weekend approaches at the end of August.
