A taxi driver aged in his 30s has died after being found on a roadside with serious injuries on the border of Birmingham and Worcestershire. A taxi driver has died after being found seriously injured at a roadside.
The man was found in Wast Hill Lane, in Hopwood, at about 2050 BST on Wednesday and died shortly after in hospital. The Asian man in his 30s, was found in Wast Hill Lane, in Hopwood, on the border of Birmingham and Worcestershire, police said.
The road has been closed between Redhill Road and Lea End Lane. Shannon Road, in Kings Norton, Birmingham, has also been cordoned off. "It is believed he was the victim of a serious assault," a West Mercia Police spokeswoman said.
West Mercia Police said it appeared the man died after being attacked. He was found by a member of the public about 2050 BST on Wednesday and was taken by ambulance to hospital where he died the following morning.
A spokeswoman said the dead man was from the West Midlands area. Police said the family of the driver, who was from the West Midlands, had been informed.
The coroner has been informed and a post-mortem examination will take place later. 'Lot of speculation'
Anyone with information should contact West Mercia Police or Crimestoppers. Det Spt Shelia Thornes said the taxi driver's blue Ford Galaxy people carrier was found in Shannon Road, Birmingham, - about one mile (1.6km) from where he was found.
The vehicle was being examined by forensic specialists.
Ms Thornes said: "There has been a lot of speculation about how this man came by his death and possible motives.
"At this early stage we are keeping an open mind and are looking at all lines of inquiry."
Police particularly want to hear from anyone who was in the Wast Hill Lane or Shannon Road areas on Wednesday night or who may have used the taxi involved.
A post-mortem examination was due to take place.
